Join us as the Grand Cru Wine Society presents a horizontal tasting of Brunello di Montalcino from 2004, an acclaimed vintage in Tuscany. We will be tasting eight different wines to determine their longer term cellaring potential and possibly for use in a future Grand Cru Society event. This is also a great opportunity to try wines that you may want to include in your own cellar.

This will be both a structured tasting and an educational event, with discussion focusing on the aging potential of the wines we are tasting. We will be tasting the wines blind so we will not be influenced by the name or reputation of the wines.

James Suckling, from Wine Spectator, calls 2004 Brunello di Montalcino “A classic vintage, wonderfully perfumed and majestically refined”. He goes on to say “Just a few days after they harvested their grapes in 2004, producers of Brunello di Montalcino were speaking of a fantastic vintage. Many made comparisons to 1997, a benchmark year in Tuscany and one whose reds are still of excellent quality today.”

This event is a follow-up to the successful Cellar Selection Event held last year where we tasted Cabernet Sauvignon from around the world. It was so much fun that we had to try it again but in a different way.

Here is an interesting discussion of the current state of Brunello…
